[out]ta house | the 3 ‘F’s

What an awesome day it has been so far!

Well just to let you all know… i went to bed at 11pm last night but still woke up at 1:30 pm!!! what the? i tried to not sleep all day but i dunno it just wouldn’t work. Well anyways, after waking up i prepared for Outta House with Voltage!

I was late picking up my people, it was half my fault/half the fact that i get an sms at 3:30 (the time we meant to meet) asking to bring a basketball and footy! so i had to run around looking for one, ended up borrowing one of my neighbour. But after arriving at the park i could already see the fun had started. So as i entered the atmosphere of fun in the park… INSTANTLY… BOOM… a new level… haha jokes. But it was great seeing everyone just chillin or kicking the soccer ball, or playing volleyball or helping with the barbe and it was great to see two new visitors to the Life Group, Russel and Mel and a total of 26 people! (over ignite and voltage)

Now what is these three ‘F’s i’m talking about?

Well while (i only know PH’s outta house) they are paying 9 bucks to throw a ball down a lane (that doesn’t include food) we pay 4 bucks for the three ‘F’s

Food
Fun &
Fellowship

haha, but i think the best part of today was the fact that i didn’t even notice the ‘New’ people. Not meaning they were so insignificant i didn’t notice them, but they were so welcomed and integrated into the group that it was like they are one of us! Wow, i really just loved how everybody embraced every new person, encouraging them to join on the fun, serving them food and drinks, passing the basketball to them in the game! I really see the Acts 2 church beginning to take place in Voltage and Ignite.

But this whole day couldn’t of happened without the work of two awesome fellas.

Wes was pretty much in charge of the whole event and he did a great job organising the whole thing. And i would really like to acknowledge the lil brother Ash! Wow, even though he wasn’t meant to be helping out it was great to see him excited about games and finding the bestest and funnest games to play and then take on the role of heading the games! And even though we were only able to play one game… he had 8 games lined up!!

Great Job Boys!

Overall… I think i’m sure of where i am serving. For a long time i’ve been battling with God about which ministry im meant to serve in… Highschool or University. but i think today has really reconfirmed the call of God in my life. Now Uni students reading this i still want to be your friends! this just means i am trusting that you guys will take care of my friends that i invite to Ablaze even better since i cant be with them all the time when they come to LG and stuff!

The only negative side to outta house?… well there was one major one… THE SUN SET!!!! haha… i was quite cut to see the sun setting to fast! i reakcon if God had decided to stop the sun (like in the bible) we probably wouldn’t of even noticed and kept on playing and playing and playing!

Anyways… can’t wait for the next Life Group

[]DeathNote[]
April 27, 2007, 2:29 am

Well i just finished watching a movie called Death Note: The Last Name. It’s the sequel to the first movie, although to fully understand the second movie you need to watch the first one.

Ok here’s the basic jist of the movie. The main characters name is Light and he receives what is known as the Death Note from the Death God Ryuk. Basically the deathnote is a notebook where, when you write someones name down they die within 40seconds of a heart attack. There are a bunch of other rules to the book aswell like you can control how someone dies but if the way they die isnt logical (eg. they live in japan and you say they die of a heart attack in america but dont say that they flew to america first) they will just die of a heart attack. Also you need to know their name and also know their face before you write their name down. and also if you deny possession of the deathnote you lose all your memories about the deathnote… but gain them back once you take possession again

So Light uses this notebook to kill criminals who have been convicted but not jailed because of loopholes in the laws or not enough evidence and goes by the alias Kira. To society he becomes a hero. But since he is killing people the FBI are called in to investigate and one very smart cop named L is the head coppa.
So there is all this stuff that happens where Light uses the DeathNote to manipulate people and to try get the FBI off his tracks but L manages to somehow suspect him again… then another deathnote comes into play and there are 2 deathnotes and he uses the 2nd kira to do this and that then they get caught but he manages to devise a plan so he denies the deathnote and loses his memory… then a 3rd kira comes into play… he kills this person that person… but in the end he Dies…

But… this movie is more than just a smart guy manipulating society… or people dying… or that fact that its totally fictitious coz a book like this can never exist. But the underlying message of the movie is basically

What is True Justice? Is it acceptable to judge people by moral when the law fails? This movie is about a man killing those who have escaped judgement by law and are deemed criminals by society but the law cannot because there is not enough evidence. Its quite interesting because we actually had a little debate about this in class once at uni and most people found it to be morally correct to break the law when there is seemingly no other way out.

One interesting thing that was said in the movie was when Light was trying to justify his actions for being Kira to his father who is an FBI agent as well.

Light: You don’t know that good people are suffering because of evil people in the world

there are tons of evil human beings that should disappear for the rest of the world

its impossible to save them with the power of the laws

Yagami: Yes, it’s impossible

laws are perfect, because humans who created laws arent prefect

its impossible to be perfect

however,

the laws are evidence of the human struggle to be rightous

Interesting. I guess this is a debate for everyone. Is it right to murder a murderer who doesnt get convicted by the Laws of society to be murdered by the laws of morality? What do you guys reading this (if you havent gone THIS IS TOO LONG) think?

Lest We Forget

ANZAC day. An important day in australian history.

Courage, Endurance, Initiative, Discipline and Mateship are just some of the characteristics that embody the ANZAC spirit; a spirit that cannot be physically seen but is the driving force behind australian culture.

But while we take a moment of silence, stand and honour those who died at the front lines i cannot help but feel a sense of guilt and betrayal. No it’s not because i am asian and i am honouring a culture which is not my own, i have lived and breathed australian culture all my life and it has become apart of me. But why i get a sense of guilt is while i am honouring those who died at war, what about honouring the the one person that sacrificed his life not just for australians but for every single person that has, is and will exist on this earth.

[Jesus]

Jesus, a man who lived a blameless life died to atone the sins of all mankind.
Jesus, a man who showed courage by giving himself up to the authorities
Jesus, a man who showed endurance as he carried His own cross
Jesus, a man who showed initiative by forgiving those who sinned against Him
Jesus, a man who showed discipline by living out God’s Word everyday of His Life
Jesus, a man who showed mateship by dying on the cross for you and I

As you honour the ANZACs remember to honour your Saviour King as well

.lest-we-forget.gif

Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross, and the ANZACs who died fighting for freedom

A look into my [OC] experiance

[part 3:HUMILITYbeatsPROUD…HUMILITY]

One thing that caught me off guard was actually the hearts of the people going to OC. I guess from past experience with camps and meeting new people I don’t really expect to meet a new person had share about what God has done in my life, but OC totally shattered that attitude. I came to OC not really expecting to share about what God has done in my life or what God is doing in Ablaze or in Brisbane to many people, except maybe those from Brisbane or those who I kind of knew from last year.

There were times where I did share with others about what ministries I was involved in but God revealed a attitude in me that I would never have realized without God. When people asked me where I was from, what I did etc I’d often find myself talking about Ablaze as a whole and talking about others and not really talking about myself. But the thing God revealed to me was that I often did this with the intention to try get people to ask me if I serve and when that opportunity arose I’d often talk with a proud sort of attitude.

[What God spoke to me]

I was actually quite taken by God in this situation. What God spoke to me was that I should just be straight out with what I do when I share. But not in the proud boasting way but because this is what God has given me the opportunity and capacity to do. God showed me that when I shared to people I was actually being proud by acting humble. It’s kind of hard to explain. But I realized that I shouldn’t be afraid to just share about the ministries I’m and what we are doing in Brisbane for Ablaze because God has blessed me with not only the opportunity but the capacity and heart to serve. Without God I wouldn’t be able to be where I am at today in serving God’s Kingdom, as long as I always know that it is God that gives me the ability to serve I can share as much as I want.

James 4:6

He gives us more grace. That is why scripture says:
“God oppresses the proud
but gives grace to the humble.”…humble yourselves before the Lord and He will lift you up.

Grass [important]
April 23, 2007, 10:03 pm

I finally figured it out. For a while now i have been questioning why i like this blog layout so much. Besides the simplicity and cool look of the grass there was something that i just couldn’t put my finger on.

Then i looked at the words i chose to describe my blog ‘[created] for something greater’ and God spoke to me and told me to check out what are some of the things grass is used for. Now the first thought that came to me was the grass on my front lawn, which serves the purpose of just being apart of the typical ‘house’ package. Well at the moment it’s out with the green grass and in with the brown grass =D (drought + water restrictions + green grass = someones breaking the rules!). And then i just thought of grass that you see in movies with lions, that long grass that they hide behind.

Well to my surprise grass actually is used quite a lot in society.

  1. There are about 9000 different species of grass
  2. Wheat, rice, corn, oats, barley and rye are all cereal grasses which is the staple diet of most of mankind and is major type of feed for animals
  3. Make up most of the hay and pasture plants
  4. Molasses and Sugar are products of sugarcane which is also a type of grass
  5. Many liquors are made from grass grains and molasses
  6. Plants of the grass family are also a source of industrial ethyl alcohol, corn starch and byproducts, newsprint and other types of paper, and numerous lesser items
  7. Species of reed and bamboo (to name a few of the woody grasses) are used for thatching and construction
  8. Grasses are an important food source not only for domesticated animals but for wildlife in general
  9. And finally grass is a key component in preventing soil erosion

Ok, so you might think I’m a bit of a nerd but there is a valuable lesson God taught me through this. I didn’t realise that grass had so many uses. If God created grass for all these purposes, something so simple, then what about me. I must be created for something greater than to just exist, I’m positive we all have a higher calling in life than grass.

Jeremiah 29:11

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

If God knows the plans He has for me then who better to trust in than the person that knows the plan and purpose for your life! And what’s even better is that these plans are made to PROSPER you and give you a HOPE and a FUTURE.
