i am aussie asian

This statement couldn’t be truer today.

January 26 marked two culturally important days in the world.  Australia Day and Chinese New Year.  I think this is the first time both events have landed on the same (in my lifetime) and I believe it to be a blog worthy event!

So Australia Day celebrates the discovery of Australia by the British colonists way back in the late 1700’s.

Chinese New Year celebrates the new year according to the Chinese calender but is a fantastic family bonding & community event

recently-updated

My brother and I have the privledge of celebrating both on the same day, although i think Australia Day overshadowed Chinese New Year in excitement ( i spent 6 hours in the sun and got majorly sunburnt).  I am ethnically Chinese but Cultural Australian or as we like to call ourselves Aussie Asians.

But on Saturday at our special Australia Day Service Ps Wilson spoke on a topic that really challenged me to change my perspective on culture.  He spoke about the Australian Dream and Mateship and challenged them.  Now to challenge something so engrained into our culture is deemed very very un-australian.  It is treading dangerous ground to challenge something that makes us, who we are.  And as I sat in the service battling with my patriotism and my biblical understanding God challenged me

Just because it is culture, it doesn’t make it right.

right then and there my eyes were opened to the flaws in human culture.  In thinking about this topic more God placed this statement into my heart

“To challenge human culture is un-australian.  To not challenge human culture is unbiblical”

Human culture is flawed because we are flawed.  Biblical culture is flawless because He is flawless.
So today i celebrate my human culture.  The culture that has shaped me to respect my elders & those in authority to the culture that has shaped me to live freely in all aspects of my life.  But forever i celebrate biblical culture.  The culture that has shaped me to be a Christ-follower.

is this… an epic failure?

i encountered two very interesting incidences last week.

1.  While i was working a mate of mine took his 40 minute break.  He sat at the back and started reading a book so I asked him why he was reading and he said his granddad told him to… so i asked him why don’t you read the bible (because I know this guys a Christian through school) and he replied back to me… i don’t know how. what do you mean i asked him… and he said back i don’t know how to read and learn from it…

2.  While … ok feeding the facebook monster inside of me… i stumbled across a note from a class mate in high school which had this (you gotta read the verse 1 samuel 20:41 to understand why they’re confused):

notebmp(there were more comments to this not from others with a good perspective on answering this guys qn)

Ok so this is my thought. Why are there young Christians who attend church, go to a life group, go to youth, go to or went to a Christian school… saying they don’t know how to learn from the bible and being confused by scripture about something pretty obvious? I think this screams volumes… it did to me.

Ablaze HS

Tonight we had our first Ablaze HS Sub-district meet for 2009 and although I already knew the numbers that were gonna pop up and an idea of the direction of the meet I was really inspired once again to see our highschool ministry taken to the next level.

I think there is something different stirred in you when you sit in a meeting of 6 leaders and champs talking about how many new leaders and champs need to rise up to sitting amonsgt the whole sub-district and speaking the same numbers.  I looked around and saw so much potential.

So since the numbers have been annouced here are our ablaze HS goals for 2009

ABLAZE HS | 100

Ignite | 30

Voltage | 70

We read from Matthew 9:35-38 about that the harvest is plentiful but the worker are few and the 3 ingredients to becoming are harvestor are:

  1. Vision
  2. Teamwork : Who I am working with
  3. Determination: What kind of attitude I should have

Our 2009 focus

[HARVESTING]

Other than that Nick had a word for some people and also for each LG and the VS2 lifegroup word was from Acts 4:32, “all the believers were in one heart and one mind.”  Nick continued to share that we will be a LG that will experience the power of God through unity, through putting aside our differences and coming together for Christ.  Man what a word and what a needed word!  I think all of VS2 have been experiencing a difference in likes and dislikes, personalities and awkward moments but funny enough GOD HAS PLANNED IT THIS WAY SO THAT HE CAN GIVE THIS WORD!  MAN DOESNT THAT JUST MAKE YOUR BRAIN GO … SPLAT!

And this is for you VS2!

You’ve heard the vision, the direction and the goals for 2009 for all of high school.  You see the number of leaders, champs, shepherds and LG’s to support this vision.  But don’t be intimidated because that’s exactly what the devil wants you to feel, instead feel compelled and inspired to rise to the challenge set before us.  Turn fear and doubt into courage and belief because we live by faith and not by sight.  We can do this because Christ is in us, with us and all around us!

Vision should inspire us not defeat us.  It should feel impossible but seem possible when you put God in the picture

Teamwork will get us there.  A win for one is a win for all.  there’s no room for competition because we aren’t building our kingdom we are building God’s kingdom!

Determination gives us strength to perservere.  There is no way the devil is letting this vision come to pass without a fight!  So ready yourself for battle because there are lives at stake!

stupid computer

Ok so for the past couple of days my brother and i have been in an epic battle with the laptop.

In PNG my laptop had stuffed up one night.  everytime i typed something on the keyboard it would press a letter or number, 2 or 3 of the surrounding letters or numbers would also pop up at the same time.  Also it suddenly took alot more time to load up than it normally does.  After a moment of panic and confusion i had prayed and asked God to please fix my computer and after dinner the computer was fine thx Lord!

But just recently the laptop froze while my brother was using it and wouldn’t load up windows thank God the blue screen of death never appeared.  The times the laptop did turn on and log into windows the keyboard was either completely unresponsive… OR… it would go… eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee… and at th emoment its favourite key is \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ so thank God for toshiba’s finger print recognition technology haha… knew it would come in handy one day

i don’t know what’s going on… but there is someone who has helped to temporarily in this epic battle.  a big thx to me sheep ASHLEY!!! for letting me borrow his keyboard and also an external harddrive so i can back up my stuff!

anyways tired now… but the computer isn’t allowed to turn off for a while.

There is so much to blog about and with so much to blog about there is so much to procrastinate… and with so much to procrastinate there is so much to blog about… and the vicious cycle continues… but seriously haha there are some way overdue posts (ie… Singapore & PNG) and some more recent news… haha newayz till … 2morrow maybe =D

So when i can get my computer up and running or get on the net for a good solid time slot i will blog about the things God has been speaking to me.

For my LG know that I may not be able to blog my wake up times for a while.  And if God has spoken to you about anything please comment on this entry or blog about it coz i would love to hear what god is speaking to yA!
